Liam is the younger brother of Erin, a Kilian government official. The two of them grew up with loving parents and a stable home environment. While his sister was bright, ambitious and down to earth, he was blithe, flighty and seemed to have no real goal in life at all, a contrast that was a continual source of frustration for his parents. However, every now and then, he would surprise the family be doing something that seemed completely out of character- successfully cast a complicated spell, recieve good marks at school- so that his carelessness never disturbed their happy home environment.

The only thing that shook this domestic stability surfaced as the two siblings got older, when Erin fell into one of her depressive episodes with increasing frequency, to which then their parents would worry and fret and the home would fall into a gloom with her. One of the ways the mood would lift was that if he made a pest of himself and ignored the mood completely, so that his parents would do something other than worry about Erin and that Erin would react, even smile a little at his antics. Somewhere along the way, being annoying became fun, almost second nature to him, so he continued. There wasn't any point denying that he enjoyed being an annoying turd of a brother.

Now, he's following his sister and her husband, Justin, around Eire, partly because annoying Erin is sort of difficult when she's not at home, partly because Erin and Justin would be irritated at the prospect of him following them around, partly because he wanted to keep an eye on Erin's depression issues, and partly because Kilia was starting to bore him and he has never been one to refuse a free ride.

Liam is a cheerful smartarse of a kid who prides himself in knowing exactly how to get under people's skin, and seems to take a particular delight in annoying Erin, and to a lesser extent, Justin. He likes to think himself as witty, which he is, just that not many would find his wit particularly amusing. He tends to act the slacker, not wanting to do anything that will require huge amounts of effort, and took up riding because he thought it took less effort than walking. Liam is clever, good with words and adept at thunder spells, but would be much more brilliant in other areas of magic, and life in general, if he actually applied himself.

He decided long ago that life was something he wasn't going to take seriously; Erin took life seriously, and Erin was depressed enough for the both of them. He was going to enjoy life, he was going do whatever the hell he wanted, nevermind the consequences, and the only thing that he would fear is the idea of Erin not- well, needing him. He loves and cares about Erin a great deal, but thinks that actually showing affection would make him look dumb and is in direct opposition to the "annoying little brother" image he likes upholding. Whenever Erin seems depressed, he always seems to find the most unorthodox ways to get her to smile. Making Erin smile at least a little is something he thinks he's good at, and is a bit miffed that Justin can do the same so easily. He has a grudging respect for him- at least he makes Erin happy- which is slightly better than the resentment he felt before, when he was convinced that Justin was going to steal her away from their family. However, that doesn't mean he'll make the effort to get along with him and that he'll actually trust him.

Liam is a growing, skinny kid with blond hair that is a hassle to keep tidy and away from his bright brown eyes. His skin is quite pale due to his Kilian heritage, and he burns easily. His face always seems to be fixed in some sort of smile, from a self-satisfied smirk to a teasing grin. He wears loose, flowing clothes and an earring on his left ear, which he got done pretty much on a dare. He travels with his horse, a white mare named Gwen, who resembles him in personality in almost every way. Not surprisingly, they get along splendidly.
